An innovative option for school-based vocational training
SchoolTech is an innovative, award-winning initiative between TAFE Queensland Cairns campus and the QLD Department of Education (DoE). The program allows students to study for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), as well as two Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications while at high school.
- Allows students to complete their senior schooling and obtain a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
- Gain ‘real world’ skills by participating in work placement and working within industry standard training facilities.
- Helps provide students with the skills needed to gain a head start in their chosen industry.
- The strong emphasis on work placement and vocational training gives students every opportunity to secure an apprenticeship while completing their senior schooling.
- Students are enrolled with TAFE Queensland Cairns campus and Woree State High School.
- SchoolTech is located on the TAFE Queensland Cairns campus.
- Students may access the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (Portsmith) for their Marine Mechanical studies.
SchoolTech is a Trade School, designed to give you the skills you need to get a head start in the workforce. You'll get to develop real world skills by completing work placements and/or securing an apprenticeship or traineeship as part of your high school studies.
The program is available in Cairns and offers the following study areas:
- Grade 11: Electrical/Grade 12: Plumbing
- Grade 11: Construction/Grade 12: Plumbing
- Grade 11: Engineering/Grade 12: Maritime Operations
- Grade 11: Engineering (Metal Fabrication)/Grade 12: Automotive Vocational Preparation
- Grade 11: Engineering (Diesel Fitting)/Grade 12: Automotive Vocational Preparation
